Up until a couple of weeks ago, Aaron was often having a difficult time of getting dropped off in the mornings at school. He is tired in the mornings and wants to stay home with us instead of going to school sometimes. He was acting a bit fussy in the mornings and whining (even crying sometimes) when we get him to his school. So, I have been offering him rewards for having cheerful behavior in the mornings. If he doesn’t cry, whine or fuss, we do a fun activity together AS SOON as we get home after school. It has worked every day for two weeks. Tuesdays his reward can be a movie, because we have funky busy evenings on that day. Every other day we have read a story or done a craft of some sort before I even start making dinner. (His favorite thing is to do “a messy craft.”)
I am so proud of him for being so successful at mastering his emotions and even more happy that we are spending this time together and that it means SO much to him to do so.
Tonight he wanted to paint on his easel and he was the picture of artistic concentration :)
What a great picture!!!
